Grade Placement

From an administrative perspective,  grade placement is a useful tool for categorizing students and data.  At CHeS we use grade placement for reporting to the Ministry of Education.

From a learning perspective, the student’s point of optimal learning gain is of the most importance.  This is the point we seek to identify in our in-depth Fall assessments.  During this process CHeS staff will take the time to listen, assess, suggest, explore options with you, and to select resources geared toward your child’s learning potential.   Academic progress will be reported to the Ministry of Education in terms of gains on Provincial Learning Standards as laid out in the student learning plan.

Grade Promotion Policy

Grade Promotion is determined through teacher professional formative assessment in collaboration with parent discussions regarding student readiness.  The Ministry has instituted check point years to help K-9 students stay on track with meeting grade level expectations.  Promotion between check point years 3, 6 & 9 is flexible as outcomes or learning standards can be carried forward. In Gr. 3, 6 & 9 grade level skills (competencies) documented as completed insure promotion. Some exceptions apply.
